Banjul, The Gambia – The Gambia marked the 60th Anniversary of its Independence with a grand celebration at McCarthy Square in Banjul on 18th February 2025. The historic occasion commemorated the nation’s freedom from Great Britain on 18th February 1965, highlighting more than half a century of sovereignty, progress, and national unity.
The event brought together a cross-section of dignitaries, government officials, and invited guests, including representatives from uniformed forces, civil society, and the diplomatic community. The military, police, fire and rescue service, and other security agencies participated in a ceremonial parade, demonstrating discipline and patriotism in honor of the nation’s independence.
In his keynote address, the Head of State reflected on the country’s journey since independence, acknowledging the achievements and challenges along the way. He emphasized the importance of unity, development, and national progress, urging all citizens to continue working towards a brighter future.
