Banjul, The Gambia – The Gambia Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) has received a generous donation of essential medical materials and firefighting equipment from a startup Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to supporting emergency response services. The donation, which was formally handed over to the GFRS, marks a significant boost to the service’s operational capacity in both firefighting and paramedic response.
In a well-attended ceremony, officials from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health, alongside senior officers of the GFRS and other distinguished guests, gathered to witness the handing-over of these critical supplies. The donated items, which include protective firefighting gear, medical kits, first aid supplies, and emergency response equipment, were immediately distributed by the GFRS management to fire and rescue stations as well as paramedic units across the country.
Speaking at the event, a senior representative of the startup NGO emphasized the importance of equipping first responders with the necessary tools to effectively carry out their lifesaving duties. she reiterated the organization’s commitment to strengthening emergency response systems and ensuring that firefighters and paramedics are well-resourced to protect lives and property.
The Chief Fire Officer, in his remarks, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the entire GFRS for the timely and valuable donation. He highlighted that these materials would greatly enhance the efficiency and safety of firefighters and paramedics, enabling them to respond more effectively to emergencies.
“The nature of our work requires that we are always ready and well-equipped. This donation will go a long way in improving our emergency response capacity, protecting our personnel, and ultimately saving more lives,” he stated.
The event underscored the strong partnership between the GFRS and development stakeholders in improving emergency services across The Gambia. The leadership of the GFRS reassured the donors and all partners that the items would be used effectively to serve communities nationwide.
